Transcriptions of twenty-eight Beneventan sources of the Exultet chant.
The sources for these transcriptions come from the 10th through 14th centuries. These sources show the Exultet chant with Beneventan neums. Both the musical and textual variants within the sources are retained. The editorial rules are explained in a PDF file below (see Principles of musical transcriptions). The twenty-eight transcriptions are notated in two separate PDF files created with Finale (see Combined score of sources 1-18 & 19-28). All of the sources transcribed in the first score (1-18) come exclusively from Exultet rolls. Sources which are transcribed in the second score come from both manuscript books and Exultet rolls. The transcriptions have been placed in a synoptic layout, so that differences among the sources can readily be compared and recognized. The musical transcriptions are accompanied by two files of footnotes which contain further information about the sources. (see Footnotes for each combined score).
